Prerequisites - certification as an EMT or Paramedic for a period of 3 years, as well as 3 years of EMS experience providing BLS or ALS emergency care.
Process - Interested individuals are prescreened at a Basic course site, and serve as an intern, after completing a minimum of a one year internship, they are sent to a New Jersey State Department of Health Instructor candidate screening. After successful completion of the screening, candidates then attend the New Jersey State Department of Health Instructor Development Program. After completing the Instructor Development Program the instructor trainees receive mentoring and practicum experience at a local EMT course site during a Basic class. After serving as an intern for a minimum of 80 classroom hours candidates are endorsed for full instructor certification by the New Jersey State Department of Health. The entire process usually takes a minimum of two years to fully complete.
