EMT Elective Classes

New Jersey EMTs Need to obtain 24 core credits and 24 elective credits prior to the expiration of their card----- National Registry Requires 24 Core Credits and 48 Elective Credits every two years

 

Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS)  16 Elective CEUs 

    This program provides skill in the management and recognition of the severely injured trauma patient. See the PHTLS page for more information on this valuable CEU course

 

Pediatric Education for the Prehospital Professional Care - Basic (PPEC)  

    This class provides the EMT with the skills and material to recognize a severely sick or injured child and provide the proper care. Assessment skills are stressed as are airway management techniques. The format of the class follows that of PHTLS where skill teaching stations are integrated with classroom presentations.

EMS and the Intoxicated Patient    5.5 Elective CEUS 

    This program shows the EMS Provider the needed skills to deal with a patient that has become intoxicated. Students will be offered the opportunity to experience some of the effects of alcohol on the system through of Fatal Vision Glasses and will also observe a controlled drinking exercise

 

Documentation for EMTs    2.5 Elective CEUs 

Learn the skills needed to successfully communicate your assessment findings into a patient care report. The basics of Patient charting and narrative requirements are covered.

 

Advanced Care Team (ACT)  12 Elective CEUs

    This program allows the EMT to see and attempt some of the skills performed by paramedics. In this classroom setting Basic EMTs have the opportunity to attempt intubation of an airway trainer, interpret EKGs and hone their assessment skills as well as observe additional skills and techniques used by paramedics

 

Water Rescue for the EMT       7.5 Elective CEUs

    This program allows the EMT to attempt skills in a aquatic environment that usually are not practiced until an emergency arises. Students participate in both a classroom setting and a water session where self rescue, drown proofing and back boarding techniques are stressed. Students do need to be swimmers, but only have the ability to enter the water and get their face wet.

Interim Defibrillation     5 Elective CEUs    

    Designed for EMTs that have not had a formal introduction to the skill of defibrillation. This program contains both lecture and practical sessions to help EMTs understand the workings and use of the Semiautomatic External Defibrillator (SAED).

Head and Spine Injuries    5 Elective CEUs  

    Students are offered the chance to care for patients with suspected head and spine injuries. The session consists of both discussion and practical evolutions.

Blood Borne Pathogens    2.5 Elective CEUs  

    This program when coupled with a review of your agencies personal protection plan meets the OSHA requirements for annual guidelines updates.

Street Drugs  3 Elective CEUs

    Examine the common illicit substances in use and the affects on the body. Sessions consist of discussion and video presentations.

Medical Ethics    3 Elective CEUs  

    This class examines the ethical decisions made by the EMT when faced with an Out of Hospital Do Not Resuscitate Order (DNR). Learn how to provide appropriate care and also respect the wishes of the patient and family members.

EVOC 10 Elective CEUs

    This program consists of behind the wheel and classroom sessions. Students are taught maneuvering skills in the classroom and then permitted to practice and fine tune the skills. Class size dependent on weather and strictly limited.

CEVO   8 Elective CEUs

    This classroom presentation helps the EMT driver to learn to make better decisions when behind the wheel of the ambulance. Accident avoidance techniques along with appropriate driving skills are reviewed.

ICS - I 200 (NJSP)   12 Elective CEUs

    Incident Command allows all of the members of the Emergency Services Team to work together. The students learn how to interact in multi-agency situations and also how to manage recourses available to the emergency services provider.

Cultural Relations for the EMT   6 Elective CEUs

    This program helps the EMT to understand some of the different cultures encountered when treating patients. Simple acts could be misinterpreted by people that are part of another or culture.

Onsite Classes

    Classes can be setup on site for groups of 10 or more for the majority of our classes. Class minimums will differ for some of the more intensive classes.

    You can  register for the class on line, but payment is expected prior to the start of the course to ensure a seat. If you registered on line please print out a copy of the course flyer and mail it along with proper course payment or an original copy of the training fund verification form. At this time we are unable to accept payment on-line, but should be able to shortly.
