The Emergency Medical Technician is the first skilled component of the Emergency Medical  Services Chain to provide care to the patient. With proper training the EMT-B is able to provide care to victims of emergencies as well as to minimize discomfort and help to prevent further injury. EMT’s staff ambulances and provide both emergency care and transportation to patients.

Instructor        Mark Chapman and EMS Academy Staff

Content:          This program is an intensive four-month course that uses a series of presentations by physicians, nurses, and other allied health professionals. The lectures are followed by skill development exercises and evaluation sessions. Throughout the program teamwork, safety and patient care skills are stressed.

Pre-requisite   All students must be at least sixteen years of age in order to enroll in class. Students need to be certified in CPR to the “Healthcare Provider” level by the American Red Cross, or the American Heart Association prior to the start of the class. Note                In order to obtain New Jersey State Certification students must attend all class sessions, be physically capable of performing all skills, complete a final practical test and a final written test with a minimum score of 70 and meet all other class requirements. A health screening and tuberculin skin test may be required. Students are given 1 year from the end of the class to complete the testing portion.

Registration   Students can register by mail to UMH - MICU by using the form below. Payment in Cash, Check, Voucher or NJ State EMT Training Fund form is expected at the time of registration. Participants that withdraw prior to the third night of class will receive a refund less the cost of the textbook and a $20.00 processing fee.

Funding for Volunteer members of Approved EMS agencies will be accepted as payment by Underwood Memorial Hospital. State training fund forms can be obtained from this page at the bottom , or the NJ Department of Health web site.
