The UMH-MICU Bike Team was placed in service in September 1999. The
Team currently consists of 4 Bikes that provide ALS coverage to special events
throughout our coverage area.
The concept and focus to develop a ALS Bike Team was developed from the
success of Police Bike units. These Police Teams became such an asset to the
coverage of special events and movement of personnel and equipment over
difficult terrain, the concept seemed to solve the same problems for BLS and ALS
medical support.
Research for the project was completed throughout the summer of 1999. The
financial support was obtained to purchase the Bikes. Research into the
best type of bikes to use for Advanced Life Support was completed by September.
The committee selected the Trek 7000. The bikes were then purchased from the
Peddlers Shop in Deptford, NJ. The associated equipment and accessories were
purchased at the peddlers shop.
The UMH-MICU Bike Team currently has 18 Members. These dedicated individuals
provide advanced medical care to the environs of special events throughout
Gloucester, Cumberland and Salem counties. The Bike unit has been requested to
other coverage area's throughout the tri-state area for specialized events.

 | Cost Effective |
Paramedics made effective use of the UMH Security Golf-cart during Op-Sail
2000 at the Red Bank Battle Field in National Park, NJ. The Cart is normally
used to survey the grounds of the Underwood-Memorial Hospital Campus by the on
site security department. The Paramedics found that it was a great addition to
the coverage during the event.
In 2006, the Paramedic Bike Team continues to provide coverage to
various events throughout the southern New Jersey counties. The Paramedic
Bike Team is an effective outreach to community protection and public
relations.
