Early in 2001, the
Mobile Intensive Care Unit developed a Special Operations Division. The
concept was to create a team of specially trained Paramedics to manage
operations during large-scale incidents and events. This forethought
proved valuable later that year during the terror attacks of September 11th
2001. Immediately following the attacks that morning the team mobilized
and responded to assist the emergency service personnel in New York City,
as part of New Jersey’s task force response.
The Special
Operations specially trained team continued to operate at ground zero for
an extended period of time providing resources, medical protection and
field hospital services.
The team has grown
to 55 members all specially trained to support various operations and
provide rehabilitation to emergency personnel at scenes involving extreme
environmental conditions.
The Special
Operations Team provides advanced life support and medical protection to
Law Enforcement agencies, Fire Departments, Hazardous Materials Teams,
Emergency Medical Services personnel and the community at large scale
events.
The Special
Operations Team continually prepares to meet the ever-changing demands
faced by emergency management organizations today.
